Getting to know Evnur and her family

Created by Beate 11 years ago
We met Evnur in November 1991. I was pregnant with my son Nicolas (guess why he was named Nicolas)... At this time we lived in Singapore in No. 1 Oriole Crescent, the de Boursac family also in Oriole Crescent at the other end of the road which was shaped in a „U-form“ so that we had never met before. One sunny and humid day I walked with my daughter Julia (2 years old) in a prem towards the home of the de Boursac family and I was stopped by a car steered by Evnur. She told me I was so beautiful and good looking whether I also lived here and whether we could meet again. I was a bit concerned. Something like this hadn’t happened to me before. So I walked on. A few days later I met Evnur again at Toys „r“ Us . She was on the escalator on her way down, me and my family (my husband Michael and my daughter Julia) on our way up to buy some toys for the little girl. Evnur approached me again and gave me her business card with the name Evnur de Boursac – Solid Silver. I showed it to my husband and he told me that he knew somebody with that name. His name was Nicholas ... Michael hat met Nicholas in 1982 in Norway when they were fishing for salmon. They were invited by their former employers in Frankfurt and London to a fishing bankers’ weekend. Michael and Nicholas did not like fishing that much, they rather had good conversations near the rivers. In the end Nick caught one salmon, the only one a guest caught and the Norwegian hosts kindly smoked it for him and sent it later. Nick wanted to eat it there, but they refused. The two bankers Nick and Michael stayed in contact via phone and real letters. Nick invited Michael who at this time had just met his wife Beate (me) to Turkey. Unfortunately, this never worked out since all of us were still working with various banks in Europe. Internet and facebook did not exit at this time until a day in November in 1991. Back home in our house in Singapore we called the phone number on the business card and asked the maid whether the name of her boss was Nicholas.More or less at the same time Nick called our home number on the business card Michael had handed out to Evnur and we met the same night at our home and celebrated this with a glass of champagne they brought along. On December 2, 1991 our son Nicolas (German writing) was born and his name was certainly a small tribute to Nicholas de Boursac. Later on Evnur and me met regularly while we lived in Singapore, our husbands went fishing with the kids (no fish this time) and Evnur in 1994 was the one who had a wonderful idea. She arranged my farewell party in Singapore in 1994 before I left Asia for good. She invited my friends to her house, prepared everything, printed a T-shirt „Singapore is a fine city“ and hosted me and my guests perfectly. I was really touched. I met her again in Singapore with my daughter in 1998, in 2004 we returned as a family and we were invited to their new home. Our kids aged between 13 and 16 got along well, food was again georgeus and Nici, our son, talked with Evnur about his favourite „Döner“. Over the years we exchanged photos and letters and until 2009 I had not been able to come back to Asia. In Singapore again I visitied the Silver Shop knowing that the family had already left for Hongkong. What a pity (for me). Last year I went to Hongkong to see my daughter during an exchange from her university, and knowing that Evnur was very sick I wanted to see her and the family again, but at this time Evnur was unfortunately already so weak that she was not able to accompany us. Our meeting was postponed to summer in Europe ... Unfortunately, this never happened. All of us will however keep such a good and unforgettable memory of her. Evnur was always gracious and welcoming and she was the one who made it possible that our two husbands met again after many years. Although we did not come together that often, our meetings were full of joy, laughter, fun and happiness. For me Evnur was such a caring and loving person, we are happy that we met on a sunny day by accident in Oriole Crescent … Unfortunately, I have only two pictures in my photo album and Evnur is only seen in the left corner ... and the cake was done by her when I left Asia.
